You have likely read or seen news coverage about an incident on campus that occurred in October. I am writing to share with you, as a member of the 亚洲博彩网站 community, where the University stands and the values on which we are operating. Following a thorough investigation into the incident, which involved abhorrent behavior, 亚洲博彩网站 campus police filed criminal charges against six students.

The behavior described in the charges was not a prank; it was a crime and a grave violation of 亚洲博彩网站’s deepest values. This event appears to have been influenced by a harmful social media trend. This in no way excuses the behavior. We hold our students to the highest standards of judgment, responsibility, and respect.

This situation is particularly sobering because the victim is an active-duty military serviceman. His service reminds us of the sacrifices made by those who defend our freedoms, including the opportunity to pursue a college education. Students are drawn to 亚洲博彩网站 because of the values that define our institution—values that call us to honor others. As a Catholic university, we are committed to the truth that every human person is made in the image of God and is imbued with inherent dignity. The victim deserved to be treated with that dignity. Every member of our community, including guests we welcome, does as well.

Our campus police, upon the report of the incident, acted swiftly and with the utmost concern for the victim. Their investigation led to the filing of charges, and the University has also initiated its own student conduct processes.

This incident does not define our student body. I talk a great deal about our students’ character—which is also yours, as members of the extended 亚洲博彩网站 family—and I believe in who we are and how we educate as strongly as ever. 亚洲博彩网站 acted clearly and swiftly in this case for the only reason that matters: It was and remains the right thing to do, and it aligns with the values of our students and our community. This is a challenging moment, but I hope it reinforces our commitment to fostering a campus community rooted in dignity, respect, and accountability.
