The book 《平等程度：废奴主义学院与种族政治》, written by Assistant Professor of History 约翰•贝尔, has been awarded the 琳达·艾森曼奖 from the History of Education Society. 该奖项每两年颁发一次，授予对美国高等教育史做出杰出贡献的处女作。

贝尔的书, published in 2022, focuses on three institutions of higher education in the eras of the Civil War and Reconstruction (欧柏林大学 in Ohio, 伯里亚学院 in Kentucky, and the former New York Central College). 这些机构是美国第一批主要的种族融合大学，贝尔分析了他们的实验对美国社会和教育的更广泛影响，无论是在19世纪还是今天。

The book traces these institutions from the mid-19^th century through the beginnings of the Jim Crow era, and Bell examines why after Reconstruction there was a shift towards discriminatory behaviors against Black students.
